Overview

The Autorité de Protection des Données à caractère Personnel – APDP is responsible for ensuring the protection of personal data and participating in the regulation of the sector,

as such, it :

  • Sets standards and purposes for the collection, processing or storage of personal data;
  • Gives prior authorization for any data interconnection ;
  • Authorize data transfer ;
  • Informs and advises data subjects and data controllers of their rights and obligations;
  • Ensures that treatments pose no risk to people;
  • Receives complaints;
  • Controls the regular processing of personal data;
  • Imposes administrative sanctions in the event of failure to comply with obligations ;
  • Informs the competent public prosecutor of the offences referred to it;
  • Makes the Personal Data Processing Directory available to the public;
  • Gives its opinion on any draft law or decree relating to personal data;
  • Calls on the government to make any necessary amendments to the texts, or to adopt any new texts required for the sound protection of personal data.
